Starter out of the MJ. I hit the key yesterday morning and the starter spun but the engine didn’t. Wound up taking the Niva to work so I wasn’t late.
The solenoid may have been gummed up a bit. I pulled the starter and bench tested it and it didn’t want to push the drive gear out at first. Then it didn’t want to pull it back in. Eventually It seemed to go back to operating normally but the bushings are shot (about a 1/4" play side to side!) so I’m replacing it anyhow.
I bought one over the phone from my work’s part store and had it sent up in this morning’s run. I’m about to walk over there to go get it. Depending on the core charge I may hang onto it and rebuild it as a spare.

Of all the insanely insane sentences I expect to see typed today, this may end up as the insaniest.

Without the prior knowledge it currently isn’t registered, I jammed it into a snowbank with no intention of touching until spring, the clutch is toast and the transmission is hurting, both due to the trans input seal puking out oil, I’m not sure what would lead you to that conclusion.

Paraphrase for comedic effect: “My normal car is so janky that I hauled out GLORIOUS SYMBOL OF MOTHER RUSSIA TO MAKE WORK ON TIME, DA. It’s the “on time” that sounds craziest. I think “currently leaking like a mine-damaged T-34" is kind of assumed, regardless.

It’s a similar kind of sentence to “I have a blind date tonight, so I spent the morning washing and waxing the Yugo GV.” It’s the one or two incidental tips to being dead serious that make it more hilarious.

Well I could have walked, but then I would’ve been 20 minutes or so late. It’s about a half-hour walk and I’ve done it before, but on purpose and for fun with adequate planning so I’d end up on time.
And I’m actually pretty offended about calling the MJ janky. Sure, it’s 26 years old and has 525,000km on it, and maybe it’s a little rusty and showing it’s age and some things could use a bit of work (or cleaning), but it’s a solid, reliable, vehicle.

I get you. No offense meant by the replies toward either the MJ or the Niva, I’m just saying the situation *sounds* crazy when expressed a certain way, particularly out of context.
